The season starts here – BARC Formula Renault Media Day, Silverstone
After a long winter break, Andrew and his SWB Motorsport team kicked off their season on Friday 18th March as part of the BARC Formula Renault Championship Official Media Day at Silverstone, Northamptonshire.
The day consisted of 4 sessions of testing in between a series of promotional activities including interviews with the drivers, promotional videos and a championship briefing from the series organisers.
Following his return to the SWB Motorsport team for 2011, Andrew commented:
“Overall I’m fairly please with today, this is the first time we’ve been out since the final at Thruxton last year and after a full winter rebuild, the first session today was a shake down and chance to run the new engine in.”
“We started to build the speed up in the second session and posted the 9th fastest time which I was pleased with considering we were on our old tyres from last season and not flat out. In the afternoon we had several technical issues which were a little frustrating as I was keen to push for a good time after the morning session.”
“In the final session we had an electrical problem on the car which the team couldn’t fix before the end of the session which forced us to cut the day short.”
“Overall it’s good to be back in the car and I was happy with our performance in the second session, I’m looking forward to Donington (March 29th) and I’m confident the team can solve our technical issues before then.”
“We don’t have the biggest budget on the grid which limits our testing but I’m confident that if we keep pushing to maximise the performance of me and the car, we can finish in the top 5 this season and our aim is definitely to be on the podium.”
